Where do you buy thin insulated copper wire?

I've checked Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Dollarama, and many speciality/computer stores - none of them seem to have very thin (fine) insulated copper wire...

what type of conducting material (copper, aluminium, steel etc) Gauge (thickness and power handling of the conducting wire) and what insulation type (silicon, lacquer or similar coating, plastic, rubber etc).

Also, tell us the purpose of the wire...
